What is PRP for Fillers?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, a natural treatment for reducing wrinkles and lines, including frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, lines around the lips, and nasolabial folds. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an organic alternative to other fillers that use the power of your blood to reintroduce vitality and youthfulness to your face.

Platelet-rich plasma injections are a great option for someone who wants to harness their own body’s capability to heal itself. The high concentration of platelets combined with the active growth factors that naturally occur in the body, stimulate the body’s natural restoration process prompting the creation of new collagen. This also means that the platelet-rich plasma therapy is completely natural and organic because the product is coming from, well, you!
PRP injections are also a great treatment for individuals with a botulinum toxin allergy who are unable to use injectables like Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport.
What is a PRP Injection Like?
A small amount of blood is taken from the patient (usually between 10-30ml). The vial of blood is then placed in a centrifuge where the white blood cells and red blood cells are separated and filtered resulting in a high concentration of platelets and active growth factors. This separated component is then injected into the treatment site just like filler. It is recommended that you come to your PRP injection appointment fully hydrated and that you have a snack beforehand to reduce the risk of lightheadedness.
Recovery From PRP
It is normal for the face to appear red and swollen after PRP treatments. Thinner skin may show bruising, especially at the site of the injection. Swelling and redness should subside after a few hours, whereas bruising may take a couple of days to diminish. A normal routine can be resumed after 1-3 days.
How Long will Results Last?
Depending on your personal goals and wishes PRP treatment can be combined with other fillers, like hyaluronic acid fillers, to maximize the anti-aging benefits, or it can be done on its own in several treatments until you have reached the desired results. Generally, PRP treatment will only need to be repeated once a year to maintain results.
