What is Restylane?
Restylane is a unique filler that uses a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid to help lift, define, and smooth your facial features while improving your skin health. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that helps provide skin hydration, fullness, and elasticity. Restylane was the first non-animal stabilized HA filler designed to resemble your body’s own HA as closely as possible. Whether you’re looking to restore youth to your face and hands or seeking to change the shape of your facial features, Restylane’s product line, coupled with the expertise of practitioner Dana Protomastro, can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Who is a Candidate for Restylane?
Restylane and its extensive line of dermal fillers are a great option for individuals who are looking for a very targeted and precise treatment to minimize signs of aging or desire to reshape facial features to meet aesthetic goals.
Do not use Restylane if you have an allergy to lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins that are commonly used to make hyaluronic acid. You should also avoid Restylane if you are prone to bleeding, have a bleeding disorder, or if you are taking blood-thinning medications that lower your body’s immune response, as this can cause an increase in bleeding or bruising at the injection site.

Restylane can be used to treat a variety of concerns by using a simple, safe, and effective process. After an initial consultation with Dana Protomastro, in which you discuss your goals and expectations, she will skillfully recommend a cosmetic enhancement that is right for you. Each product is injected under the skin using a fine-gauge needle. Treatment areas include:
Lips and Lines
Are you looking to achieve a fuller, more symmetrical pout? Or maybe you want to change the shape of your lips to be a youthful cupid’s bow? Restylane Kysse is the perfect filler to define your lips’ shape and fullness.
If you desire to smooth out the lines above and around your lips, sometimes called “barcode lines,” Restylane Silk is a great way to get rid of those pesky lines and restore a more youthful look.
Marionette Lines and Nasolabial Folds
The deep lines that form on your face going from your nose down to the corners of your mouth are called “parentheses lines”, or “smile lines”. They worsen over time, becoming more noticeable and pronounced. As you age, you develop marionette lines that begin at the corner of your mouth and travel down toward the chin, mimicking a marionette puppet.
Restylane Defyne, Lyft, and Refyne are all designed to smooth out these facial folds and restore facial contours. Similar to Restylane Kysse and Silk, this line of Restylane products is designed with movement in mind so that what you gain in youthfulness and confidence, you don’t lose in facial expressions.
Cheeks
Restylane Lyft and Restylane Contour are great options for cheeks. From correcting sagging cheeks with Restylane Lyft to reshaping the cheeks with Restylane Contour, Restylane targets both anti-aging and aesthetics. Whether you are adding fullness to your cheeks to achieve a more youthful look or adding definition to contour your face, each product is designed to help you realize your aesthetic goal.
Chin
When it comes to correcting the proportions of the face and restoring harmony amongst all its features, Restylane Defyne is the answer to a more balanced look. The dermal filler is placed under the skin to augment the chin and correct mild-to-moderate chin retrusion temporarily. This can also help reduce the appearance of a double chin that occurs when the chin falls towards the neck.
Hands
As you age, your hands begin to lose volume, making the tendons, veins, and bones more visible under the skin. Restylane Lyft’s hyaluronic acid formula filler can be injected under the skin on the back of the hands to restore fullness and smoothness.
Recovery from Restylane
Like with most treatments, recovery will vary from person to person. You should limit your exposure to the sun to prevent further bruising and swelling beyond what is normally expected during recovery. If you’ve had several injections, you may want to give yourself a day to recover; otherwise, you will be able to return to work or other activities soon after treatment.
While you will see the lifting results of Restylane almost immediately, it will take about a week to heal fully. Once healed, you can return to your daily activities without any alterations.
How Long Will Results Last?
Restylane appointments last less than an hour, but the results last much longer. Depending on the treatment site, the benefits of Restylane injections can be enjoyed for anywhere between 6 and 18 months. You can partner with Dana Protomastro to develop a maintenance schedule if needed.
