What is RF Microneedling?

Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy because it involves collagen stimulation triggered by the body’s natural healing response. Secret RF (radiofrequency energy) microneedling allows for more intensive rejuvenation by heating the deep facial tissues to tighten loose facial skin. RF-generated heat also gives an extra boost to collagen and elastin production. These are two important proteins naturally found in the skin but their production slows down as the body ages.

By replenishing collagen and elastin, patients can expect tighter skin with fewer wrinkles to rejuvenate a more youthful appearance. RF microneedling is typically used on the face and neck but can be used on other body areas.

Who is a Candidate for RF Microneedling?

RF microneedling is safe for most skin types. Patients hoping to treat early signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and mild skin laxity (sagging skin) are great candidates for RF microneedling. Secret RF can also target acne scars, sun damage, stretch marks, enlarged pores, rough skin texture, and uneven skin tone. Dana may recommend a different treatment for patients with a history of hypertrophic scarring or poor wound healing.

RF Microneedling Treatment

At the start of the RF microneedling treatment, Dana will apply a topical numbing cream on the skin to keep you comfortable. Once the skin is numbed, the Secret RF microneedling device will be moved across the treatment area, creating microchannels on the skin’s surface. RF energy will be delivered into the skin at varying depths to treat surface imperfections and remodel deeper tissues.

Patients will feel slight pressure and a heating sensation, which is generally not considered painful. Treatment can take up to one hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Recovery From RF Microneedling

RF microneedling requires minimal downtime but some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort can be expected. These side effects will improve on their own within 24-48 hours. To protect your healing healthy new skin, please avoid direct sun exposure for a few days after treatment.
